DC Elopement | How to Elope in DC
Did you know that to get legally hitched in DC, you only need two people who love each other and a marriage license? It’s true! In this amazing and diverse district, you can literally get married anywhere you wish.
Kathryn and Simon wanted just that. A heartfelt, intimate ceremony with just the two of them. They had initially planned on doing the wedding at the courthouse, but the lines to get in can be long and it wouldn’t be personalized. So they ultimately decided to get married in a place that was meaningful to them, their own backyard.
They live in the district and recently bought a home together. They have been pouring their love into decorating and restoring it along with their two furbabies Mishka and Ziggy.
Beneath a beautiful ivy-covered tree in their backyard, on a patio they built together, they became man and wife.
No caterers. No big-budget venues. They did it exactly their way, and it was beautiful.
Weddings should be a celebration of your love and should reflect what you want on your wedding day. Want a big bash, lots of guests, and keep the party going all night? Go for it!
Want to have it be just the two of you and then take your first dance in your backyard decorated with pots of flowers you planted together like Kathryn and Simon? Also perfect.
They signed their marriage license by firelight and then had a sweet post-ceremony champagne toast with their dogs. Simple. Perfect.
After the ceremony, we went to another one of their favorite places, and a place they spend lots of time walking their pups, The National Arboretum.
In the sun-drenched fields and along the National Capitol Columns, we strolled around as they took in the wonder of being married! The results are some fun and relaxed environmental portraits, perfectly fitting their personalities.
It was really important to Kathryn and Simon that their DC elopement was done their way, and that the day was relaxed and meaningful. I’d say they ticked every box!
Later, friends and family joined them for an evening bonfire, toasting to the happy couple, petting the pups, and enjoying the sneak peek gallery I had ready for them.
Thank you so much for letting me document your amazing, private and beautiful wedding. Cheers!
